Student answer (Band 6.5)

In today's evolving world, many people spend a considerable amount of money on vitamin supplements, even though doctor recommend getting essential vitamins from a balance diet. This essay will discuss the main reason behind this trend and suggest how can encourage people to eat healthier food instead.

Out of all the arguments, one of the main reason why people spend money on vitamin pills is their busy lifestyle. Many individuals have hectic work schedule and family responsibilities, which leave them little tome to prepare nutritious food. As a result, they believe that taking supplements is a quick and convenient way to maintain their health. That is to say, instead of spending time cooking vegetable, fruits and other healthy foods, they prefer swallowing a pill. Moreover, advertisements often claim that vitamin supplements can improve energy levels, strengthen the immune system and prevent health problems. For instance, a person who working whole day and feel tired, may buy vitamins tablets without considering whether their diet is actually lacking essential nutrients. Consequently, they may spend a large amount of money on products that they do nit necessarily need.

There are several way to persuade people to improve their diets rather than rely on supplements. First of all, governments and healthcare professional should raise public awareness of the benefits of eating fresh nutritious food. For example, a doctor can explain the benefits of taking balanced diets containing fruits, green vegetables, whole grains, nuts and protein rich foods provides a wider range of essential vitamins. Furthermore, school can teach children basic cooking skills and the importance of healthy easting from as early age. In addition, governments could make healthy food affordable by supporting local farmers and reducing the cost of fresh produce.

To sum up, it can be reiterated that people often but vitamin pills because they have limited time to prepare healthy meals and influenced by advertising. However, public education, government interference and affordable nutritious food could encourage them adopt healthier eating habits instead of buying unnecessary supplements.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The response addresses both questions and maintains a clear focus: it explains busy lifestyles and advertising as reasons for buying supplements, then proposes public education, school cooking lessons and more affordable produce. The examples, such as a tired worker buying vitamins without checking their diet, help make the explanation relevant. The main ideas are extended with reasons, and the conclusion restates the central argument. To develop the response further, explain more specifically how the proposed measures would change people’s choices—for example, how a doctor or public campaign could correct misleading advertising claims. Some suggestions, particularly government support for farmers, are introduced but not fully connected to the decision to choose food over pills.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The essay has a clear four-part structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for causes and solutions, and a conclusion. Ideas progress logically within each paragraph, and linking expressions such as “As a result,” “Moreover,” and “Furthermore” help show relationships between points. The contrast between the convenience of supplements and the benefits of a healthy diet is also easy to follow. At times, however, transitions feel somewhat formulaic, and some references could be clearer: “these products” or “this approach” could help connect later sentences more precisely to the ideas already introduced. Aim to vary the linking language and make the relationship between each proposed solution and its intended effect explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

There is an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “hectic work schedule,” “nutritious food,” “public awareness,” and “fresh produce.” These choices communicate the main ideas clearly, and the writer attempts more specific health-related language such as “strengthen the immune system.” However, some word-choice, spelling and word-form errors reduce precision, including “tome,” “do nit,” “easting,” and “but vitamin pills.” There are also awkward combinations such as “government interference” and “taking balanced diets.” Use more natural collocations and proofread carefully for spelling and word forms. Greater precision in describing advertising and dietary choices would make the vocabulary more flexible and convincing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including subordinate clauses such as “which leave them little…” and conditional phrasing in the example about a person who works all day. Most sentences remain understandable, and the paragraph structure supports the meaning. Some grammatical errors persist, however: “doctor recommend” needs plural agreement or an article, “one of the main reason” needs a plural noun, and “a person who working” requires a finite verb form. The opening also has an incomplete construction in “suggest how can encourage people,” while “could encourage them adopt” is missing “to.” Review subject–verb agreement, verb forms and infinitive patterns, then check each sentence for a complete grammatical structure.
