Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
You make a relevant attempt to discuss healthy eating, mentioning junk food, exercise and the example of Japan. However, the response does not clearly answer either question: it gives little explanation of why people spend money on vitamin pills, and it does not set out practical ways to persuade them to improve their diets. The opening is also unclear about the prompt’s point that a healthy diet can provide necessary vitamins. Your ideas about diet and health are mostly asserted rather than explained or supported. The response contains 214 words, so it is 36 words below the required minimum; this limits the space available to address both parts. Develop a clear answer to each question and support each main point with a relevant example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5
There is a loose progression from the importance of vitamins to unhealthy eating and then to diet and exercise, so a reader can identify the general topic. However, the response is presented as one long, largely unpunctuated block, with no clear introduction, body paragraphs or conclusion. Connections between ideas are often difficult to follow: for example, the move from junk food to Japan’s life expectancy is abrupt, and “one thing i want to express” does not clearly signal how the next point answers the task. Repeated use of “and” and “which” also makes the writing feel run-on rather than logically organised. Use separate paragraphs for the reasons people buy pills and ways to encourage healthier eating, and link each point explicitly.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “vitamins,” “nutrients,” “junk food,” “calories,” “digestion” and “diseases,” which helps communicate the general subject. There are also attempts at more specific expressions such as “death rates” and “proper diet.” However, the range is limited and several phrases are repeated, particularly “healthy,” “body” and “lots of calories.” Some word choices or combinations are unclear or unnatural, such as “complete vitamins,” “heathy meal” and “less cooked food”; spelling errors such as “advantge” and “exercie” further reduce precision. Build a wider set of accurate phrases for causes and persuasion, such as “convenience,” “health claims,” “nutrition education” and “subsidise fresh produce.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt to connect ideas in longer sentences, for example with “which” in the description of junk food and its effects, and you use some simple statements to express opinions. However, sentence boundaries and punctuation are often missing, making several sentences run together and obscuring relationships between clauses. There are also recurring problems with verb forms and agreement, as in “people eats,” “we should took care” and “we must follows.” Articles and sentence construction are also inconsistent, as in “the doctor is asking very good.” These errors sometimes make the intended meaning difficult to follow. Practise forming complete sentences with one main idea, then check subject–verb agreement and verb forms; use full stops to separate ideas and commas where needed.
