How could people be persuaded to improve their diet instead of buying vitamin pills?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 6.5)

According to doctors, we can fulfill our daily requirement of vitamins by simply having a healthy diet. Although, people spend huge chunk of their money on buying these vitamin supplements because of smart marketing tactics and busy lifestyle. Government campaigns and nutrition related education in schools and corporate offices can be a great solution to this problem.

Nowadays, digital marketing has became more advanced and uses so many tricks to make people believe that they should consume these products if they want to live a healthy lifestyle; when people watch this kind of advertisement again and again our brain starts to believe it as a truth. Another reason could be busy lifestyle; due to busy schedules people are not always able to cook meals mindfully and include all kind of nutrition in their meals. For example, according to the survey around 50% workers are skipping meals or ordering food online instead of cooking at home, which obviously does not have all the nutrition we need.

To address this problem, Government should launch campaigns related to importance of including nutrition in diet instead of relaying on pills. For example, they can go to corporate events and do seminars to spread awareness on this topic. They should include this type of knowledge in school curriculums so that children can be educated since young age.

In conclusion, advancement of digital marketing and hectic schedules are main reasons of people consuming vitamin pills rather than taking it from diet, spreading awareness through government campaigns and school education can be great solutions.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both questions and maintain a clear overall position: marketing and busy schedules encourage pill use, while public campaigns and education could promote healthier eating. The explanation of advertising is relevant, and the example about workers skipping meals helps illustrate the lifestyle point. However, some ideas are less fully developed than others. The claim that repeated advertising makes people believe supplements are necessary would be stronger with a brief explanation of how this influences purchasing decisions. Likewise, the proposed campaigns and school lessons are identified, but their likely impact is not explained in detail. The response therefore covers the task and gives relevant support, while fuller development and more specific examples would make the argument more convincing.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The response has a clear structure: an introduction presents the causes and solutions, two body paragraphs develop them, and a conclusion summarises the main points. Ideas generally progress logically, and linking expressions such as “Another reason,” “To address this problem,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the argument. The example about workers also fits naturally within the paragraph on busy lifestyles. At times, however, the connections are somewhat formulaic, and the long sentence about repeated advertising could be divided or linked more precisely to clarify the cause-and-effect relationship. The conclusion repeats the introduction closely rather than drawing the discussion together in a more developed way. Overall, organisation is clear; more varied, precise transitions and tighter links between claims and support would improve flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “vitamin supplements,” “digital marketing,” “busy schedules,” “nutrition,” and “spread awareness.” These choices make the main ideas clear, and some topic-specific language is used effectively. There are also several inaccurate or unnatural choices that limit precision: “huge chunk of their money” is informal, “nutrition related education” needs a more natural form, and “relaying on pills” appears to be an incorrect word choice. “All kind of nutrition” is also imprecise. Aim for more accurate collocations and a consistently appropriate formal register, especially when discussing public health. The meaning remains understandable, but careful editing of word forms and phrases would make the argument sound more fluent and controlled.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “because,” “when,” and “so that.” Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors occur. For example, “digital marketing has became” should use the past participle “become,” and “Although, people spend” incorrectly uses “although” as a sentence opener without completing the contrast structure. In “our brain starts to believe it as a truth,” the singular subject does not fit the general meaning, and the sentence would benefit from clearer agreement and phrasing. There are also missing or inconsistent articles and plural forms, as in “since young age” and “all kind.” Continue practising accurate complex sentences and proofread verb forms, agreement, articles, and punctuation; these corrections would improve control without changing your ideas.
