Student answer (Band 6.0)

In this contemporary era, having a healthy lifestyle is must and doctors tells us that we get all the vitamins from eating a healthy diet. Many people, instead of keeping this advice tend to spend a large amount of money on vitamin pills. This essay will discuss the reasons behind spending money on buying vitamin pills and will also propose a viable solution to persuade people to improve their diet instead of purchasing pills.

To begin with the reasons, firstly, people are busy in their working life due to which they do not get enough time to eat healthy food all the time. Thus, they prefer to buy tablets or capsules which gives their body all the required vitamins. Secondly, a lot of pharmaceutical companies advertise the unlimited benefits of consuming tablets targeting customers of every age which pursuade the majority of people to utilise their funds to buy the same.

Fortunately, there are some viable measures that can be adopted to motivate people to improve their dietary habits instead of buying pills. Fruits and vegetables selling companies can spend money on advertisement to target people by not only providing benefits but also mentioning harmful effects on health so that people can be aware of detrimental effects of not consuming healthy food on daily basis. Another solution can be arranging awareness campaigns everywhere to speard adverse effects of taking tablets regularly. So that they can stop relying heavily on taking drug pills for vitamin intake.

Taking everything into consideration, although many people of the society use alternative methods of taking vitamins beacuse they have hectic work schedule, I beleive the food companies should aim to advertise not only positive but also negatives of not eating a healthy diet so that they can be encouraged to improve their diet instead of buying vitamins from the market.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both questions and maintain a clear overall position: people buy supplements because of busy schedules and advertising, while food-company promotion and awareness campaigns could encourage healthier eating. These are relevant reasons and solutions. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained. For example, the claim that tablets “gives their body all the required vitamins” does not explain why people trust this option or whether it is a realistic substitute for meals. The proposed campaigns are also broad; a specific example of how they would change choices would strengthen the response. Your conclusion restates the main ideas, but does not add much development. More explanation and concrete support for each main point would make the response more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, a paragraph on reasons, a paragraph on solutions, and a conclusion. Sequencing is easy to follow, and signposts such as “To begin with,” “Secondly,” and “Taking everything into consideration” help guide the reader. This meets the lower-band expectation for coherent organisation and shows some features of stronger progression. However, linking is sometimes mechanical, with repeated formulaic transitions, and the sentence beginning “So that they can stop relying…” is a fragment that interrupts the flow of the solutions paragraph. The reference in “the same” is also slightly vague. Use fewer stock connectors and link each explanation directly to the point it supports to make cohesion more natural.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range for the topic, including phrases such as “dietary habits,” “pharmaceutical companies,” “awareness campaigns,” and “detrimental effects.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and you attempt some less common vocabulary. At times, however, word choice and collocation are inaccurate or unnatural: “unlimited benefits,” “spend their funds to buy the same,” and “spread adverse effects” do not express the intended meaning precisely. There are also spelling errors, including “pursuade,” “speard,” “beacuse,” and “beleive.” These do not prevent understanding, but they reduce accuracy and polish. Aim for more natural combinations and check spelling carefully, especially in key topic words.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex forms, including a relative clause in “companies advertise… benefits… which persuade…” and a conditional purpose clause with “so that.” The overall meaning remains clear, but some grammatical errors occur. For example, “having a healthy lifestyle is must” needs an article, and “doctors tells us” has subject–verb disagreement. In “tablets or capsules which gives,” the verb does not agree with the plural noun; “instead of keeping this advice” also has an awkward grammatical construction. The sentence “So that they can stop relying…” is incomplete. Work on agreement, articles, and complete sentence boundaries, while continuing to use varied sentence structures.
