Student answer (Band 7.0)
Nowadays, although doctors recommend obtaining essential vitamins from a balance diet, many individual continue to spend considerable amounts of money on vitamin supplements. This essay will discuss the reasons behind this trend and suggest ways to encourage people to eat more healthy.
There are several reasons why people prefer vitamin pills to nutritious food. Firstly, modern lifestyle are often hectic, leaving people with little time to prepare balanced meals. Consequently, they consider supplements are a better way to maintain the health. Secondly, advertising and social media strongly influence individual's decision by promoting vitamin pills as an easy solution to tiredness, weak immunity and other health problems. Some individuals also believe that taking supplements regularly can prevent illnesses, even when they do not have nutritional deficiency. For example, office workers may take multivitamins daily as they are not able to take fresh fruits and vegetables.
However, several measure could encourage people to improve their balance diets. Government and healthcare professional should conduct public awareness campaigns explaining the benefits of consuming nutritious foods and the potential risks of unnecessary supplementation. Schools could also teach children about healthy eating habits from an early age. Furthermore, making fresh fruits, vegetables and other nutritious foods more affordable would help people from lower-income households adopt healthier lifestyle.
In conclusion, people often spend money on vitamin pills because of convenience, misleading advertisements and a lack of nutritional knowledge. Through public education, affordable healthy food and professional medical advice, people can be encourage to obtain essential through a balanced diet rather than relying unnecessarily on supplements.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response addresses both questions and maintains a clear focus: it explains convenience, advertising and limited nutritional knowledge as reasons for buying supplements, then proposes public campaigns, school education and more affordable produce. The office-worker example supports the convenience point, and the conclusion brings the main ideas together. This fits a response that covers all parts and extends its ideas with relevant support. To strengthen development further, explain more specifically how the proposed campaigns or medical advice would change purchasing decisions; these suggestions are relevant but are stated rather generally. The claim that supplements are promoted for “weak immunity” could also be linked more explicitly to why consumers find such advertising persuasive.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.5
The essay is clearly organised into an introduction, a paragraph on causes, a paragraph on solutions and a conclusion. Progression is easy to follow, and signposting such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” “However” and “In conclusion” helps distinguish the stages of the argument. Ideas within each paragraph are generally grouped logically, and the example about office workers follows the point about busy lifestyles. To make the cohesion more flexible and less dependent on explicit markers, use a wider range of links between cause and consequence, and connect the proposed measures more directly to the problems identified. For instance, the education proposal could be tied explicitly to the lack of nutritional knowledge mentioned earlier.
Lexical Resource: Band 7.0
The response uses a sufficient range of topic vocabulary, including “nutritious food,” “public awareness campaigns,” “nutritional deficiency” and “lower-income households.” These choices communicate the argument clearly and show some awareness of formal academic style. There are occasional word-form and collocation problems, however, such as “a balance diet,” “eat more healthy,” “improve their balance diets” and “obtain essential” in the conclusion. These do not prevent understanding, but they reduce precision and naturalness. Aim to check common word partnerships and ensure that nouns, adjectives and verbs are used in the correct forms. More precise phrasing for the effects of supplements and the practical benefits of healthy food would also add flexibility.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
There is a useful mix of simple and complex structures, including the opening concessive clause (“although doctors recommend…”) and the participial phrase “leaving people with little time…”. Most sentences communicate their meaning clearly, and the paragraph structure supports readability. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly with agreement and verb forms: “modern lifestyle are” should have a plural subject or singular verb, “individual continue” needs plural agreement, and “people can be encourage” requires a past participle. The construction “they consider supplements are a better way” also needs a grammatical link, such as “they consider supplements to be…”. These errors are noticeable but rarely impede communication. More consistent checking of agreement and clause patterns would improve accuracy.
