Student answer (Band 6.0)

It has been noticed that some people spend too much on buying vitamins, whereas doctors suggest that healthy diet is a source of all the vitamins. There are some reasons that why people spend large amount of money on vitamins, but we can prevent this by taking some necessary actions.

To begin with, the first and foremost reason of spending extra on purchasing the vitamin pills is that healthy food is not delicious everytime. People don't like the taste of nutrition rich foods and because of this reason they think instead of struggling, why not to take a vitamin pill and just swallow. For instance, oats and soyabean contain good amount of iron and other vitamins but it doesn't have any particular taste. Also, guac is also rich in nutrients but it is tasteless. The another reason is advertising the different brands of vitamin and just creating a hype among the people. It attracts the people to buy by misleading them in amount of vitamins they contain. They end up paying extra for nothing. Furthermore, in this busy schedule people don't have time to spend on making healthy food, therefore they prefer to take vitamins which they carry with themselves.

We can take some actions to prevent people from buying vitamins instead they should start eating healthy food. To start with, we can alter the taste of the foods that people might don't like by adding some other natural flavours or homemade sauces to it. For example, one can eat a whole bowl of salad of fresh veggies by just adding some salad dressings to it. Additionaly, we can do meal preps on weekends that would help us in our busy schedules. Moreover, we should promote more intake of healthy foods and their benefits of taking it, so that people would be aware of this.

To conclude, although healthy food is not tasty, there are ways to change its taste and stop people by buying the vitamin pills and spending money for nothing.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both questions and maintain a relevant focus. The reasons are clear: food may seem unappealing, advertising can encourage purchases, and busy people may find pills more convenient. You also offer practical responses, including adding flavours, preparing meals in advance, and promoting the benefits of healthy food. These points meet the task well, but some are not fully developed. For example, the advertising point would be stronger with a specific explanation of how claims persuade consumers, while the final suggestion to promote healthy food needs detail about who should do this and how. The conclusion mainly repeats the taste point rather than drawing together the different reasons and solutions. More balanced explanation and examples would strengthen the response.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph explaining reasons, a paragraph proposing solutions, and a conclusion. Sequencing phrases such as “To begin with,” “Furthermore,” and “To conclude” help readers follow the discussion. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical, with several points introduced through similar additive transitions, including “Also,” “Furthermore,” and “Moreover.” Some links between ideas are not fully clear: the move from food being unappealing to advertising is abrupt, and “We can take some actions” does not specify who “we” refers to. The conclusion also focuses on only one reason. To improve progression, group related ideas more deliberately and use clearer references and transitions that show how each point supports the argument.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “misleading,” “nutrients,” “meal preps,” and “natural flavours,” and the main ideas remain understandable. However, word choice and collocation are often awkward or imprecise, which limits the range and naturalness of the writing. Examples include “spend extra on purchasing,” “creating a hype,” “good amount of iron,” and “stop people by buying.” Some expressions are informal or unclear in this essay, such as “guac” and “just swallow.” There are also spelling and word-form slips, including “Additionaly” and “soyabean.” Aim for more precise, formal phrasing and check common word partnerships; this would make your explanations clearer and more fluent.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, for example, “People don't like the taste of nutrition rich foods and because of this reason they think…” and “Moreover, we should promote more intake of healthy foods…”. This shows some range, but control is uneven, and several sentence patterns contain grammatical errors. Examples include “There are some reasons that why,” “healthy food is not delicious everytime,” and “one can eat a whole bowl of salad … by just adding some salad dressings to it,” where sentence construction, agreement, or article and number choices need attention. The sentence beginning “For example” is also awkwardly formed. Practise building accurate clauses with clear subjects and verbs, and check articles, plurals, and punctuation. Greater accuracy in these structures would make the argument easier to read.
