Student answer (Band 6.0)

Doctors say that we can all have the vitamins we need from a healthy diet. However many people still spend a lot of money on vitamin pills. I believe there are two main reasons for this and there are ways to change this habit.

The first reason is why people buy vitamin pills is convenience. In modern life many people are very busy at work and school. They don't have time to cook healthy food. For example in the Philippines many people eat fast food for lunch because it's very quick it is easier for them to take one vitamin pills than to cook healthy foods.

The second is advertising many vitamin companies spend a lot of money on tv and social media ads. They say that taking vitamin pills can make you healthy and give you more energy. For instance many people see advertisements that say buy this pills to avoid getting sick. As a result many people people will believe in those ads and will buy the pills.

So how can we persuade those people to improve their diet?. The first thing is that the government can help them by teaching people in schools and on the tv about the importance of a healthy food. For example they can show that by eating fish, vegetables and fresh fruits are much better and cheaper than pills. Also some food companies can offer healthy food in offices. If workers have healthy meals at work there is no need to buy a pills.

In conclusion people buy vitamins because they don't have time to cook healthy meals and because of advertisement. To solve this the government and companies should teach and provide healthy foods. And i believe this way will help people to have a better diet.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both questions and give a clear overall position: convenience and advertising explain purchases, while education and access to healthier meals could encourage dietary change. The examples about busy workers, fast-food lunches in the Philippines, and workplace meals make the response relevant. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained. For example, the link between advertising and people believing claims could be developed by explaining why such claims seem persuasive or how they influence buying decisions. The proposed school and television education is also less developed than the reasons for buying pills. To strengthen the response, explain how each suggested measure would change people’s choices and support the ideas with more specific detail. The response meets the stated length requirement; eight words copied from the task prompt were excluded from the count.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two reasons, a paragraph on solutions, and a conclusion. This makes the main progression easy to follow, and signposts such as “The first reason,” “The second,” and “In conclusion” help readers identify each stage. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical, with repeated “For example” and “Also,” and some links between ideas are abrupt. The question-like transition “So how can we persuade those people…” interrupts the otherwise formal flow. There are also unclear or awkward connections within sentences, such as the fast-food example moving quickly from convenience to vitamin pills. Use a wider range of linking expressions and make the relationship between each example and its point explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is adequate for communicating the main ideas, with relevant terms such as “advertisements,” “convenience,” “healthy diet,” and “importance.” The examples are generally understandable, and the response stays focused on the topic. However, the range is limited and several words or phrases are repeated, including “healthy,” “people,” “buy,” and “vitamin pills.” Some choices are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “a healthy food,” “buy this pills,” and “believe in those ads.” These errors do not prevent understanding, but they reduce precision and fluency. Build a broader set of topic-specific expressions, such as “nutrient-rich meals,” “promotional claims,” and “dietary habits,” and check collocations and singular/plural forms when editing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use mostly straightforward sentences and attempt some longer structures, including “If workers have healthy meals at work, there is no need…” and the sentence explaining the effects of advertising. The overall meaning remains clear, but grammatical control is uneven, and several errors occur in sentence construction, agreement, articles, and punctuation. For example, “The first reason is why people buy…” is not a well-formed clause, while “many people people will believe” repeats the subject. In “they can show that by eating… are much better,” the clause structure is incomplete. There are also missing commas after introductory phrases and inconsistent capitalisation of “I.” Practise forming clear complex sentences and proofread for agreement, articles, sentence boundaries, and punctuation.
