Student answer (Band 6.5)

It is often argued that people prefer taking vitamins instead of having a healthy diet. This essay will discuss the reasons people spend money on pills and outline potential solutions aimed at achieving sustainable changes.

There are several reasons behind this problem. Firstly, nowadays people have a busy routine; therefore, they prefer processed food. Although it is convenient to eat, it contains a smaller amount of nutrients and eventually causes deficiencies. So recently, many adults prefer taking one pill daily to fulfil the requirements of their body. Secondly, many people think natural resources such as vegetables and fruits are grown with chemical pesticides. Hence, they choose to take multivitamins because all the companies promise to provide authentic nutrients to them; furthermore, many multivitamin companies provide different types of formulae for every age and requirement, which might be easier to use. For example, Centrum is a famous multivitamin brand serving people with quality-tested multivitamin and single-nutrient tablets. Thus it is evident that young generation prefer pills over diet because it is convenient and organic for them.

To tackle this issue, several measures can be taken. One effective solution is spreading awareness among the public. One way to do this, free medical camps can be arranged so that, people visit for their free checkups ; furthermore, discounts on laboratory tests can be offered and Nutritionists should appoint to guide public about the health diet. For instance, Aga Khan University runs such awareness events for their community. As a result, it plays a crucial role in the holistic development of people because eating healthy and keeping yourself fit eventually improves mental health. Another approach is that institutes and offices should allocate a proper lunchtime for students and employees while serving them a meal full of nutrients. To achieve this goal, organizations should hire experienced specialists for it.

In conclusion, nowadays people prefer spending money on pills because it is more convenient to use while many steps can be taken to reduce this trend.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses both questions and maintains a clear focus on why people buy supplements and how to encourage healthier eating. The reasons—busy routines, reliance on processed food, and concerns about pesticide use—are relevant, and the proposed awareness events and workplace or school meals offer practical responses. The example of Centrum supports the discussion, while the Aga Khan University example gives a concrete illustration of awareness work. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained: for instance, the claim that companies promise “authentic nutrients” does not clarify why consumers trust pills over food, and the final conclusion only briefly restates the ideas. The response therefore covers the task well overall, but fuller explanation and more precise support would strengthen its development.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The essay has a clear four-part structure: introduction, reasons, solutions, and conclusion. Its progression is easy to follow, and signposting such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” “To tackle this issue,” and “Another approach” helps readers identify the stages of the argument. The examples are generally placed near the points they support. At times, however, linking is somewhat mechanical, with repeated transitions such as “Thus” and “As a result.” Some connections between ideas could also be clearer: the sentence about “holistic development” and mental health follows the awareness-camp example but is not explicitly tied to how those camps improve diet. More precise referencing and smoother links between claims would make the cohesion more flexible and less formulaic.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.5

The response uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “nutrients,” “deficiencies,” “multivitamins,” “awareness,” and “holistic development.” It also attempts more specific expressions such as “quality-tested” and “single-nutrient tablets,” showing some flexibility. However, several choices are imprecise or unnatural, including “busy routine,” “authentic nutrients,” “healthy diet” where “a healthy diet” is intended, and “young generation prefer pills.” “Organic” is also used in a way that does not clearly express the intended meaning in the sentence about convenience. These choices do not prevent understanding, but they reduce precision and naturalness. Aim for accurate collocations and avoid claims or terms whose meaning is unclear in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The essay includes a mix of simple and complex structures, such as the opening contrast beginning “Although it is convenient to eat” and the relative clause “which might be easier to use.” Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “many people prefer taking one pill daily to fulfil” would be clearer as “prefer to take one pill daily to meet”; “Nutritionists should appoint” needs a passive form, “should be appointed”; and “young generation prefer” has a subject–verb agreement error. Punctuation is also inconsistent in “so that, people visit” and around the semicolon after “checkups.” Greater control of agreement, passive constructions, articles, and punctuation would improve accuracy while preserving the range of sentence forms.
