Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main period of change and mention several relevant features, including the new bus station, the separation of staff and public parking, and the roundabouts. However, some key details are inaccurate or unclear: in 2007 there were several bus stops on both sides of Hospital Road, not a single stop south of the hospital, and the hospital was accessed from the Ring Road via Hospital Road. The overview also says facilities were “relocated,” although the public car park was newly added beside the Ring Road while the existing car park became staff-only. To strengthen the response, give a concise, accurate overview first, then compare the two layouts systematically, including the removal of the bus stops.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic chronological structure: it describes 2007 and then 2010, which helps the reader follow the comparison. Some sequencing language, such as “in 2010” and “after taking a turn,” also signals movement through the layout. However, the information is packed into long, loosely connected sentences, and the route descriptions are difficult to follow. Phrases such as “on the upfront side” and “after taking a more roundabout” do not establish clear spatial relationships. The opening overview is not separated from the details, and there is little direct comparison between years. Use clear paragraphs for the overview and each map, and organise details by location or by what changed, with precise linking phrases.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “bus station,” “car park,” “entrance,” and “roundabout,” and you attempt to describe locations with phrases such as “on the right-hand side.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or spellings make the description harder to understand, including “bus stand” for “bus station,” “crossing road,” and repeated misspellings such as “hopspital” and “parkinng.” Some phrases are also imprecise, for example “the first turn” and “on the upfront side.” Aim to use accurate map vocabulary consistently: “north/south of,” “to the east/west of,” “adjacent to,” and “connected by.” Proofreading spelling and choosing standard collocations would make your meaning clearer.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt to combine several details in longer sentences, but sentence control is weak and errors frequently make the route description difficult to interpret. The opening, “the diagram compare,” has incorrect subject–verb agreement, while “The city hopspital undergone” lacks the auxiliary verb and uses an unsuitable tense form. Articles and prepositions are often missing or misplaced, as in “on left side of the round,” and punctuation and capitalisation are inconsistent. Most sentences rely on basic clauses joined together, with little accurate variety. Practise forming clear past-tense sentences with a subject and verb, for example, “In 2007, the car park was east of Hospital Road.” Then check agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries.
