Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers the main features of the maps, including the addition of roundabouts and the relocation of parking facilities. However, the description of the 2007 map is somewhat confusing and lacks precision in spatial orientation. While the main changes are identified, the comparison between the two years could be more analytical rather than just listing features. The overview is present but could be more detailed regarding the significant structural changes to the road network. To improve, focus on clearly contrasting the 'before' and 'after' states with more precise directional language.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression from 2007 to 2010. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally repetitive. Phrases like 'in 2007' and 'furthermore' are used, but the internal flow within paragraphs is hindered by awkward sentence structures and unclear referencing (e.g., 'this is outlay of map'). Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer to previously mentioned nouns would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision required for a higher band. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and incorrect word choices, such as 'well managed' to describe a map, 'faced to' instead of 'facing', and 'site' instead of 'side'. The range of vocabulary is limited to basic descriptors. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more precise geographical and descriptive terminology, such as 'intersect', 'adjacent to', 'relocated', or 'transformed'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('diagrams illustrates'), missing articles ('the' before 'hospital road'), and incorrect preposition usage ('at the right of'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some missing spaces after periods. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents a higher score. Focus on proofreading for article usage and subject-verb agreement.
