Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers the main features of the maps, such as the changes in parking and the addition of roundabouts. However, the description is somewhat superficial. For instance, the mention of 'four sides' is vague, and the explanation of the road layout is difficult to follow. While the main trends are identified, the comparison between 2007 and 2010 lacks precision in describing the spatial relationships. To improve, focus on clearly contrasting the specific locations (e.g., 'the staff car park was relocated from the south to the east') rather than listing features in a disjointed manner. The overview is present but could be more analytical regarding the overall impact of the changes.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader navigate the information. However, the logical progression is hindered by awkward phrasing and mechanical use of cohesive devices. For example, 'In first map in 2007' and 'In the second map in 2010' are repetitive transitions. Some sentences are difficult to parse, such as the description of the city road passing through the bus stop. To improve, use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each sentence flows naturally into the next. Referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult to track the specific changes being described.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision required for a higher band. There are several instances of awkward word choice, such as 'changing' used as a noun instead of 'changes' or 'alterations', and 'comparatively same' instead of 'remained largely unchanged'. The range is limited, relying on basic descriptors. To improve, incorporate more precise terminology for describing maps, such as 'relocated', 'constructed', 'extended', or 'remained constant'. Avoid repeating the same sentence structures and vocabulary when describing the two time periods.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('The diagram below demonstrate', 'the bus stop contain'), incorrect prepositions ('access of road to'), and missing articles ('in first map'). These errors are noticeable and occasionally impede the flow of information. To improve, focus on basic sentence construction, ensuring that subjects and verbs agree and that articles are used correctly. Proofreading for common errors like pluralisation and tense consistency would significantly enhance the clarity of your writing.
