Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response attempts to describe the changes between the two maps, but the information is presented in a fragmented and often confusing manner. While you identify some key features like the car park and the bus station, the description of the road changes is difficult to follow. The overview is not clearly defined, and the lack of precise terminology makes it hard for the reader to visualize the changes. To improve, focus on grouping information logically—for example, describing the hospital access points first, then the road network changes—and ensure you clearly state the location of these features relative to one another.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the internal flow is weak. There is a lack of cohesive devices to link ideas, and the sentences often feel like a list of observations rather than a cohesive report. The progression of information is disjointed, particularly in the final paragraph, where the description of the road network becomes difficult to track. Using transition words like 'furthermore,' 'in contrast,' or 'subsequently' would help guide the reader through the changes more effectively.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. You rely heavily on basic words like 'beside,' 'added,' and 'replaced.' There is also some confusion in word choice, such as 'in the year of period time,' which is not standard English. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise vocabulary related to maps and spatial descriptions, such as 'adjacent to,' 'situated,' 'constructed,' or 'converted.' Expanding your range of descriptive adjectives and nouns will make your writing more professional and accurate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including issues with sentence structure, missing articles, and incorrect prepositions (e.g., 'beside of the City hospital'). Many sentences are run-on or lack proper punctuation, which makes them difficult to parse. You rely almost exclusively on simple sentence structures. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and subject-verb agreement. Incorporating a wider variety of complex structures, such as relative clauses or passive voice, would also help improve your score.
