Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response covers the main features of the maps, including the addition of the roundabout and the changes to the car parks. However, the description is somewhat superficial. For example, it mentions the 'south part' development but lacks precise detail on the specific changes to the road layout or the relocation of the bus station. The overview is present but could be more analytical by highlighting the shift from a simple road layout to a more complex one with a roundabout. The information is generally accurate, but the lack of detail regarding the specific road names or the exact nature of the changes prevents a higher score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs focusing on the two time periods. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'In 2007' and 'After development', which help the reader follow the timeline. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. Some sentences feel disjointed, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the phrase 'near bus stop area had car park area'. Improving the flow between sentences by using a wider variety of linking words would enhance the coherence of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. The student relies on basic terms like 'made', 'had', and 'area' repeatedly. There are also some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'access road of city hospital' instead of 'road access to the city hospital' and 'mort-east side' (likely a typo for north-east). To achieve a higher band, the student should incorporate more precise terminology related to maps and urban planning, such as 'constructed', 'situated', 'junction', or 'layout'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response uses a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the' is often missing) and prepositions ('in south part' instead of 'in the southern part'). Subject-verb agreement is also inconsistent, for example, 'Staff car park area were located'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to distract the reader. The student needs to focus on basic sentence construction and the correct use of articles to improve accuracy.
