Student answer (Band 5.5)

The multiple maps describe the difference in road access to a city hospital in 2007 and 2010.

In both maps there is changes in map in 2010 that have added more facilities and also more convenient ways of transportation for city hospital that is in middle.

In 2007 and 2010 has hospital in middle of ring road which is surrounded at all sides. But in 2010 there is added separated public car park on the east side of the hospital moving forward on ring road there is separate staff car parking is made. Afterwards there is roundabout at south side in there starting of hospital and continued on hospital road there is another roundabout. Combining to both roundabout there is bus station in each. However in 2007 there is only hospital road and east side of road there is same car parking for both staff and public and after completion of hospital road there is city road horizontally.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

You have successfully identified the main features of the maps, such as the addition of separate car parks and roundabouts. However, the response lacks a clear overview or summary of the most significant changes. The description of the layout is somewhat confusing, particularly when trying to follow the spatial progression from the hospital to the surrounding roads. To improve, ensure you clearly group the information—perhaps by comparing the 2007 layout with the 2010 layout in distinct paragraphs—and provide a concise summary of the overall transformation in the introduction or conclusion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The response is organized into paragraphs, but the logical flow between sentences is often disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes mechanical, such as the repetitive use of 'In 2007 and 2010' or 'Afterwards'. The referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult for the reader to track the spatial changes being described. Improving the use of transition signals (e.g., 'consequently', 'in contrast', 'furthermore') and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. You rely on basic descriptors like 'added' and 'made' multiple times. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'moving forward on ring road' and 'in there starting of hospital'. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more specific vocabulary related to urban planning and spatial description, such as 'constructed', 'expanded', 'adjacent to', or 'situated'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('there is changes', 'has hospital in middle') and missing articles ('on ring road', 'at south side'). While the meaning is generally understandable, these errors are persistent and occasionally impede the flow of reading. You rely mostly on simple sentence structures; to improve, you should practice using a wider variety of complex structures, such as relative clauses or passive voice, while ensuring that your basic grammar remains accurate.
