Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the maps, such as the new roundabouts and the parking facilities. However, the description lacks a clear overview or summary of the most significant changes, which is essential for a high band score. The information is presented in a somewhat disjointed manner, focusing on individual roads rather than providing a cohesive comparison between 2007 and 2010. To improve, ensure you include an introductory overview that highlights the primary trends, such as the expansion of the road network and the addition of new parking facilities, rather than just listing details.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is written as a single paragraph, which makes it difficult to follow the progression of information. There is a lack of logical paragraphing to separate the introduction, the main features, and the summary. While some cohesive devices are used, such as 'while going further', the overall structure is mechanical. To improve, organize your response into at least three distinct paragraphs: an introduction, a body paragraph detailing the changes, and a concluding overview. Use a wider variety of linking words to connect ideas more fluidly.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. Phrases like 'There has been many changes' and 'splitted into' (the correct past participle is 'split') are repetitive or inaccurate. The use of 'facing the south' and 'at its right' is somewhat simplistic. To achieve a higher score, incorporate more precise geographical and descriptive vocabulary, such as 'intersecting', 'diverging', 'adjacent to', or 'situated to the south-east'. Focus on using more sophisticated collocations to describe the layout of the maps.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('There has been many changes', 'There has been other developments') and incorrect verb forms ('splitted'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some sentences starting with lowercase letters or lacking proper capitalization. The sentence structures are relatively simple, and the lack of complex sentences limits the range. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and proofreading for punctuation errors. Aim to incorporate more complex sentence structures, such as relative clauses, to improve the flow and accuracy.
