Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the task achievement. While you identified the main features, such as the separation of car parks and the addition of roundabouts, the analysis is underdeveloped. The overview is brief and lacks the necessary detail to provide a clear summary of the changes. Because the response is 39 words short, it does not fully address the task requirements, leading to a lower band score. To improve, ensure you provide a more comprehensive description of the changes, including specific locations and comparative details, to reach the required length.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The response is organized into short paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The use of cohesive devices is minimal and sometimes awkward, such as starting a paragraph with 'To commence with' or 'Secondly', which feels mechanical. The lack of sufficient content makes the flow feel disjointed. To improve, use a wider variety of linking words to connect your ideas more fluidly and ensure that each paragraph has a clear focus that contributes to the overall summary of the maps.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task but remains quite basic. You rely on simple descriptors like 'large' and 'added'. There is little attempt to use more precise or academic vocabulary related to map descriptions, such as 'expanded', 'relocated', 'constructed', or 'transformed'. While the meaning is generally clear, the limited range of vocabulary prevents a higher score. Try to incorporate more specific terminology to describe spatial changes and infrastructure developments to demonstrate a more sophisticated command of the language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

There are several grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'Given two maps illustrate' (should be 'The two maps illustrate') and 'bus stand in added' (should be 'bus stand was added'). The sentence structures are mostly simple, and there is a lack of complex sentence forms. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly in the opening sentence. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of passive voice, which is essential for describing map changes. Increasing the variety of your sentence structures will also help improve your score.
