Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. While you have identified some key features, such as the bus stop and car park, the description is underdeveloped and lacks a comprehensive overview of all changes, including the road layout and access points. The analysis is fragmented and does not fully report the main features as required by the task. To improve, you must ensure you cover all visual information provided in the maps and expand your descriptions to meet the length requirement, providing a more detailed comparison between the two years.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into short paragraphs, but the flow of ideas is disjointed. While there is an attempt at an overview, the transitions between sentences are often mechanical or missing. For example, the jump between the bus stop and the car park lacks a smooth logical progression. The use of cohesive devices is limited, and the paragraphing is somewhat arbitrary. To improve, focus on using linking words such as 'furthermore', 'in contrast', or 'consequently' to connect your ideas more fluidly and ensure each paragraph has a clear, unified focus.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. You rely on basic terms like 'things' and 'changes' rather than using precise language to describe map features. There are also errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'shited' instead of 'shifted' and 'marginally changes' instead of 'marginal changes'. To reach a higher band, you need to use a wider range of vocabulary related to spatial descriptions and trends, such as 'relocated', 'constructed', 'extended', or 'demolished'. Increasing your range of descriptive adjectives and adverbs will also help improve the precision of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The grammar contains frequent errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with verb tense consistency, such as 'this changes occurs' (should be 'these changes occurred') and 'some things remains same' (should be 'some things remained the same'). Sentence structures are mostly simple, and there is a lack of complex sentence forms. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with capitalization after periods. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, consistent tense usage for past events, and practicing the construction of complex sentences using relative clauses or subordinating conjunctions.
