The two maps below show road access to a city hospital in 2007 and 2010.

Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons wherever relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.5)

The two maps illustrate the changes made to the road areas and parking facilities around a city hospital between 2007 and 2010.

Overall, the area underwent significant redevelopment. The main changes were the construction of two roundabouts, the retention of parking areas, and the addition of bus station. The hospital itself and the surrounding Ring Road remained largely unchanged.

In 2007, Hospital Road connected the Hospital directly to the City Road, with several bus stops located on both sides of the road. There was a single car park for both staff and the public on the eastern side of Hospital Road, just north of city road.

By 2010, the road system had been considerably improved. Two roundabouts were constructed on Hospital Road, one at its junction with city road, and another near the hospital entrance. The bus stops were removed, and had been replaced by bus station on the western side of Hospital Road, between the two roundabouts. The original shared car park was also divided into separate staff and public car parks, with the public facility located on the east of the Ring Road and the staff parking areas south of the Ring Road.
