The two maps below show road access to a city hospital in 2007 and 2010.

Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons wherever relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The two maps illustrate the changes made to the road access around a city hospital between 2007 and 2010.

Overall, The transport system surrounding the hospital was significantly improved over the three-year period. The most noticeable changes were the construction of two roundabouts, a new bus station, and saparate parking areas for staff and the public. These developments made access to the hospital more convanient and organised.

In 2007, the hospital was surrounded by a ring road and connected to City Road by Hospital Road. There were six bus stops, with three located on each side of Hospital Road. In addition, a single car park, which was shared by both staff and the public, was situated on the east side of Hospital Road, just below the hospital.

By 2010, several major changes had taken place. Two roundabouts were built at the northern and southern ends of Hospital Road in order to improve the flow of traffic. The bus stops were removed and replaced by a bus station on the west side of the road, which was connected to both roundabouts.
