Student answer (Band 5.0)
The given pair of maps represent about the changes made in the road access to city hospital in 2007 and 2010.
Overall, it is crystal clear there were many significant changes made in the time period of three years. Many new buildings and roundabout were installed near the city hospital.
At the fleeting glance, it is evident that two roundabouts were made at the both ends of hospital road. The bus stop was moved to one side of the hospital. The public and staff car park was splitted and public car park was moved to the east of city hospital.
Moving ahead, the bus stop was replaced by the round about and the space on the sides of hospital road was utilised and two enterences of bus stop were made

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. While you have identified some key features, such as the roundabouts and the relocation of the car park, the description is underdeveloped. You have missed several details, such as the specific road names (Hospial Road, Ring Road) and the changes to the bus station layout. To improve, ensure you provide a more comprehensive overview of all visual data and expand on the comparisons between the two years to meet the length requirement and provide a more thorough analysis.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive (e.g., 'Moving ahead', 'At the fleeting glance'). The progression of ideas is logical, but the lack of depth makes the overall flow feel disjointed. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear focus, such as grouping changes by location or type of infrastructure, rather than listing them in a way that feels like a simple inventory.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision required for a higher band. You use basic terms like 'made' and 'moved' repeatedly. There are also some errors in word choice and form, such as 'splitted' (the past tense of split is 'split') and 'enterences' (spelling error). To improve, focus on using more precise verbs like 'constructed', 'relocated', or 'transformed', and ensure you are using the correct terminology for map descriptions, such as 'intersecting' or 'adjacent'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. However, there are several grammatical errors that detract from the quality, such as 'roundabout were installed' (subject-verb agreement) and 'at the both ends' (incorrect article usage). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the spacing around words like 'round about'. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and proofreading for minor errors. Incorporating more complex sentence structures, such as using relative clauses or passive voice, would also help demonstrate a wider grammatical range.
