Student answer (Band 5.0)
The chart illustrate the road access to the city hospital in 2007 and 2010.In the below paragraph i will explain the main features and coparison of both years.First of all i am explaining about 2007 .In 2007 road access to the hospital was simple and route was smooth .There was a car park for hospital staff as well as for normal people near the hospital road.On the both sides of hospital road ,were bus stops. When we move forward from the hospital road and turn on the left side we can see the road which was a city road.On the other hand ,in 2010 roads become complicated as compare to the roads of 2007.Exact there was a car park with the hospital. After exiting from the main gate of hospital ,we can see the car parking. And exact on the opposite of park ,was a bus station and between them ,was a hospital road.when we move on the left side of hospital road there was a city road. All of these routes and places met on the roundabout. To illustrate i would like to write ,in 2010 ,there was a complex route.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to provide a clear overview of the main trends, which is a requirement for Task 1. Instead of summarizing the significant changes, such as the addition of the roundabout and the relocation of the bus station, the response focuses on a narrative description of moving through the map. The description is often vague, using subjective language like 'simple' and 'smooth' rather than objective, data-driven observations. To improve, you must identify the key features—such as the introduction of new infrastructure—and compare the two years systematically rather than describing the maps as if you were walking through them.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The organization is problematic. The response includes an unnecessary introduction that explains what the writer intends to do ('In the below paragraph i will explain...'), which is not appropriate for an academic report. Paragraphing is insufficient, as the entire response is essentially one block of text. While there are some attempts at cohesive devices like 'On the other hand' and 'First of all', the flow is often disrupted by repetitive sentence structures and a lack of logical progression between the two time periods. The transition between the 2007 and 2010 descriptions is abrupt.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. You rely heavily on basic words like 'road', 'hospital', and 'place'. There is a lack of precise terminology required for describing maps, such as 'intersection', 'junction', 'relocated', 'constructed', or 'upgraded'. Furthermore, there are several word-choice errors, such as 'Exact there was a car park' and 'opposite of park', which sound unnatural. To reach a higher band, you need to use more specific vocabulary related to urban planning and spatial relationships, and avoid informal phrasing like 'To illustrate i would like to write'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Common issues include missing articles ('the' before 'hospital road'), incorrect verb tenses ('The chart illustrate'), and punctuation errors, such as missing spaces after periods. Sentence structures are mostly simple or repetitive, with little evidence of complex sentence forms. For example, 'When we move forward from the hospital road and turn on the left side we can see the road which was a city road' is clunky and contains unnecessary words. Improving your control over basic grammar and increasing the variety of sentence structures is essential for a higher score.
