Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the maps, identifying the key changes in road layout, roundabouts, and parking facilities. However, the description is somewhat mechanical and lacks a clear overview or summary of the most significant changes, such as the transition from a simple road network to a more complex one involving roundabouts. While the information is generally accurate, the lack of a cohesive summary paragraph at the beginning or end prevents it from reaching a higher band. The comparison between 2007 and 2010 is present but could be more analytical.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is organized into three paragraphs, which is appropriate for this task. There is a logical progression from the 2007 layout to the 2010 changes. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat limited and occasionally repetitive. Phrases like 'In year 2007' and 'In 2010' are used to signal time, but the internal linking within paragraphs is a bit mechanical. The referencing is generally clear, but the flow between sentences could be improved with more varied transition signals to better connect the spatial descriptions.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks sophistication. The student uses basic terms like 'multiple changing' (should be 'changes') and 'new prepared' (should be 'newly constructed'). There is an attempt to use specific terminology related to maps, such as 'roundabouts', 'ring road', and 'bus station', which is positive. However, the range is limited, and there are noticeable errors in word choice and collocation that occasionally make the text feel slightly unnatural, though they do not impede overall communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include 'how a road connect' (should be 'connects'), 'In year 2007' (missing article 'the'), and 'Staff car parking is now build' (should be 'built'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some run-on sentences and incorrect capitalization. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors indicates a lack of control over complex structures, keeping the score in the mid-range.
