Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons wherever relevant.

Student answer (Band 7.5)

The two maps illustrate the structural changes made to the road access and parking facilities of a city hospital between 2007 and 2010.

Overall, the infrastructure underwent significant modernization, highlighted by the addition of traffic roundabouts, a dedicated bus station, and the separation of public and staff parking areas to improve traffic flow.

In 2007, access to the city hospital was via Hospital Road, which connected City Road in the south to a Ring Road surrounding the hospital. Six bus stops were located directly along Hospital Road, three on each side. Additionally, a single shared car park for the east of Hospital Road, with direct access from that street.

By 2010, several major modifications were introduced. Two new roundabouts were constructed: one at the junction of City Road and Hospital Road and another at the intersection of Hospital Road and the Ring Road. The individual bus stops were removed and replaced by a centralized bus station on the western side of Hospital Road, which connected directly to both roundabouts. Furthermore, the original parking lot was redesignated exclusively for staff use, while a brand- new public car park was built on the eastern side of the hospital, accessible via a new exit from the Ring Road.
