Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

You have successfully identified the main features of the maps, such as the addition of roundabouts, the relocation of bus stops, and the changes to parking arrangements. However, the response lacks a clear overview that synthesizes the information effectively. While you mention the ring road remained unchanged, the description of the changes is somewhat fragmented. To improve, ensure you group information logically—for example, by infrastructure changes versus parking changes—and provide a more cohesive summary of the overall trends observed between 2007 and 2010. The report covers the key requirements but would benefit from more precise comparisons.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The response is organized into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the progression of ideas is somewhat mechanical. You rely on simple sentence structures and lack a variety of cohesive devices to link your points smoothly. For instance, the transition between the overview and the body paragraphs is abrupt. Using linking words like 'furthermore,' 'in contrast,' or 'subsequently' would help guide the reader through the changes more effectively. Additionally, some referencing is slightly unclear, such as the mention of 'many other things fluctuated,' which is vague.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, but it is somewhat repetitive and lacks precision. You use basic verbs like 'built,' 'changed,' and 'stayed' repeatedly. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to map descriptions, such as 'constructed,' 'relocated,' 'remained constant,' or 'underwent significant modifications.' There are also minor errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'hospitaln' and 'infront of,' which slightly detract from the professional tone required for an Academic Task 1 response.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response relies heavily on simple sentence structures. While you attempt some complex sentences, they often contain grammatical errors, such as 'The maps are showing that which roads had access' and 'Two roundabout built by 2010.' There are frequent issues with articles (e.g., 'the' missing before 'ring road') and subject-verb agreement. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of complex structures, such as passive voice (e.g., 'two roundabouts were constructed') and relative clauses, while ensuring that your basic grammar remains accurate to avoid impeding communication.
