Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. While you have identified some key features, such as the relocation of the car park and the addition of the bus station, the analysis is underdeveloped. You have not provided a comprehensive overview of the changes, and the description lacks precision in reporting the spatial relationships. To improve, ensure you describe all major changes in detail and provide a clear, analytical summary that synthesizes the information rather than just listing changes. The under-length penalty is applied here as the response is 30 words short.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes inaccurate, such as 'whereas first map was adjust perfectly as compare to the second map,' which is confusing. The progression of ideas is somewhat disjointed, and the referencing between the two maps could be smoother. To improve, use a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'consequently,' 'in contrast,' 'furthermore') and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that guides the reader through the comparison.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. You rely on basic terms like 'moved,' 'stay,' and 'constructed.' There are also errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'hospital access a road' instead of 'access to the hospital' and 'some place was not changed' instead of 'some areas remained unchanged.' To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more precise vocabulary related to maps and urban planning, such as 'relocated,' 'remained unaltered,' 'integrated,' or 'infrastructure.' Expanding your range of descriptive adjectives and adverbs will also help improve the sophistication of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'the area covered by in second map is higher then first map' (incorrect preposition and comparative structure) and 'bus station was constructed' (missing article). The sentence structures are mostly simple, and there is a lack of complex sentence forms. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, the correct use of articles ('the' hospital, 'a' bus station), and the accurate use of comparative structures. Practicing complex sentence construction using relative clauses or passive voice would also be beneficial.
