Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the task achievement score. While the student attempts to describe the changes between 2007 and 2010, the summary is incomplete and lacks a clear overview of the main trends. Key features, such as the specific locations of the new roundabouts or the overall layout, are described in a fragmented manner. The response is too brief to adequately cover all parts of the task, and the inclusion of an unfinished sentence at the end further demonstrates a lack of development and planning.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a logical structure. While there is an attempt to use paragraphing, the progression of ideas is disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes misused, such as 'let's disscuss about transformation about its structure first of all,' which is inappropriate for an academic report. The referencing is often unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the spatial changes described. The response lacks a cohesive introduction and a concluding summary, which are essential for a well-organized Task 1 response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'at beside of the hospital road,' 'changing held in location,' and 'tranferd on new point.' These errors occasionally impede the clarity of the description. The student relies on basic vocabulary and struggles to use precise terminology to describe the map features, such as 'public place' or 'new stage.' To improve, the student needs to focus on using more accurate terminology related to maps and urban planning, such as 'relocated,' 'demolished,' or 'constructed.'
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The grammatical range is very limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences with frequent errors. There are consistent issues with articles ('the hospital road'), prepositions ('at beside of'), and verb forms ('bus stands eliminated'). Sentence structure is often awkward, and punctuation is inconsistent. The presence of fragments and unfinished thoughts indicates a lack of control over complex structures. While the meaning is generally discernible, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents the response from reaching a higher band score.
