Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response covers the main features of the maps, such as the changes to parking and the introduction of roundabouts. However, the description is often unclear, making it difficult to follow the spatial changes. For instance, the phrase 'city hospital upgraded with new amenities like parking area is departed' is confusing and does not accurately describe the visual information. While the main trends are identified, the lack of clarity in reporting specific locations and the somewhat disjointed presentation of information mean that the task is only partially addressed. To improve, focus on using precise directional language and ensuring that the comparison between 2007 and 2010 is logically structured.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the progression of ideas is often disjointed, and the use of cohesive devices is mechanical or inaccurate. For example, the transition 'by 2010 city hospital upgraded' is abrupt, and the use of 'along with this' and 'on the other hand' does not always logically connect the sentences. Referencing is also problematic; it is often unclear what 'it' or 'this' refers to in the context of the map features. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring clear reference points would significantly enhance the flow of the report.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and often imprecise, which hinders the clarity of the report. There are several instances of awkward word choice and incorrect collocations, such as 'road approach' instead of 'road access', 'six bus stood' instead of 'bus stops', and 'parking area is departed' instead of 'parking area was separated'. While the student attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'amenities' and 'roundabouts' (referred to as circles), the frequent errors in word choice and the repetitive nature of the language restrict the score. A wider range of precise vocabulary related to maps and spatial description is needed.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('The two map demonstrates'), missing articles ('in 2007 ring road'), and incorrect verb tenses ('its significant changed'). Sentence structures are generally simple, and attempts at more complex sentences often result in errors, such as 'city road have two circles both were connected with city staff parking'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with irregular spacing and capitalization. To improve, focus on basic sentence construction, consistent tense usage for describing past events, and correct article usage.
