Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the task achievement score. While you have identified some key features, such as the new roundabout and the separation of car parking, the description is underdeveloped. You have missed several details, such as the specific locations of the new road and the bus station in relation to the hospital. To improve, ensure you provide a more comprehensive overview and include more specific data or spatial relationships to fully address all parts of the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the progression of ideas is somewhat mechanical. The use of cohesive devices is limited and occasionally repetitive (e.g., 'In year 2007', 'In year 2010'). Some transitions are awkward, such as 'after that there was car parking', which does not clearly link the spatial layout. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and phrases to create a smoother flow between sentences and paragraphs, ensuring that the relationship between the two maps is clearly articulated.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is quite basic and repetitive. Phrases like 'there was' are used excessively to describe the map features, which limits the range of expression. There are also some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'forecast year' and 'they make new way', which are not appropriate for describing a map. To improve, try to use more precise verbs and nouns related to map descriptions, such as 'constructed', 'converted', 'relocated', or 'expanded'. Expanding your range of descriptive language will help you convey information more effectively.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response relies heavily on simple sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the a city hospital', 'the another change') and verb tense consistency. Some sentences are fragmented or lack necessary prepositions, such as 'change on bus stop' instead of 'change to the bus stop'. While the meaning is generally understandable, the lack of complex structures and the presence of persistent errors in basic grammar prevent a higher score. Focus on mastering subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles.
