The two maps below show road access to a city hospital in 2007 and 2010.
Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons wherever relevant.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The map illustrates renovation of roads to a city hospital in 2001 and 2010.
Overall, it is clear that the hospital has changed considerably with several features. Parking was a significant factor in this renovation process.
Looking at the eastern part of the maps in more detail, in 2007 there was a combined parking for public and staff and that was separated in 2010, Public parking was constructed in west and staff parking remains with same previous location. Moreover, two crossroads were replaced by roundabout whereas first replacement was located in front of main entry of the hospital and second replacement was done on the city road.
Additionally, the western part of the map shows that Bus transport services was having a significant change where in 2007 there were about six bus stops linked with hospital road and in 2010 a new bus station was constructed in west with two road connectors to hospital road.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have successfully identified the main features of the maps, such as the changes to parking, the introduction of roundabouts, and the development of the bus station. You provide a clear overview and make relevant comparisons between 2007 and 2010. However, the response could be improved by being more precise with terminology; for example, referring to 'two crossroads' being replaced by roundabouts is slightly inaccurate as the maps show the conversion of existing junctions. Additionally, ensure you accurately reflect the dates provided in the prompt (2007 and 2010), as you mistakenly wrote 2001 in the introduction. Overall, the information is well-selected and covers the key trends effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is logically organized into clear paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs focusing on specific areas of the map. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Additionally', and 'in more detail' to guide the reader. However, the flow is occasionally slightly mechanical, and some referencing is a bit imprecise, such as 'first replacement' and 'second replacement', which makes the description of the roundabouts feel a bit repetitive. Improving the variety of linking phrases and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would help to elevate the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have an adequate range of vocabulary to describe the changes, using terms like 'renovation', 'constructed', and 'linked'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For instance, 'remains with same previous location' is awkward; a more natural phrasing would be 'remained in its original location'. Additionally, 'Bus transport services was having a significant change' is slightly unidiomatic. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise vocabulary related to map descriptions, such as 'converted into', 'relocated', or 'expanded'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'Public parking was constructed in west' (missing articles: 'in the west') and 'two crossroads were replaced by roundabout' (missing articles: 'a roundabout'). Subject-verb agreement is also inconsistent, as seen in 'Bus transport services was having'. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they are frequent enough to limit the score. Focusing on article usage and consistent verb tense will significantly improve your accuracy.
