Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the maps, such as the addition of the roundabout and the changes to parking and bus stop locations. However, the overview is somewhat weak and lacks a clear summary of the most significant changes. The description of the 2007 layout is a bit cluttered, and some details, such as the 'straight hospital road', could be described more precisely. While the main points are addressed, the development of the information is occasionally hindered by unclear phrasing, which prevents a higher score. To improve, ensure the overview highlights the most striking transformations rather than just stating that modifications happened.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the chronological progression from 2007 to 2010. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'Move to 2010 redevelopment' and 'In addition to, while connection...'. The referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult to track the spatial relationships between the hospital, the ring road, and the new parking areas. Improving the variety and natural flow of linking words would significantly enhance the logical progression of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several spelling errors (e.g., 'RODE', 'COVERD', 'HORIZOANLY', 'CONSTRACTED') and word choice issues (e.g., 'oppose side' instead of 'opposite side'). While the student successfully uses some topic-specific vocabulary like 'redevelopment', 'roundabout', and 'rectangular', the overall range is limited. To reach a higher band, the student should focus on accurate spelling and using more sophisticated collocations to describe spatial changes, such as 'situated', 'adjacent to', or 'transformed'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Issues include incorrect verb tenses ('few modification happens'), missing articles ('on a northern side'), and awkward sentence construction ('The city hospital are remain same'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing around commas and periods. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence structure prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage is essential.
