Student answer (Band 4.5)

This graph give us the information about road access to a city hospital in 2007 and 2010.It give us the information about the condition of a road in 2007 and 2010.

In 2007 the city hospital road is such that in a east there is a bus stop which is quite good, peoples usually come from bus,bus is quite necessary and help us to come to the hospital.and when we enter to the hospital first we see the car parking of a staff and public there is good that they make parking seperately it is a advantage for usand when we move straight we see the hospital easily it is in the front of parking, and they are not such a new technology which i see as compare to 2010.

In 2010 there is a modern days and they use new technology and in hospital all facilities are been provided to the patient when we move to the hospital we see that the car parking and the bus stop are both at the side of a hospital when is very good for us when we come local the bus stop is very close to the hospital and when we come from our car we find parking very easily, there is a seperate car parking of a staff and seperate parking for public and we find hospital quite easily and hospital in which all facilities are avalible.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to provide an objective summary of the visual data. Instead of focusing on the changes in road layout (such as the addition of roundabouts or the relocation of access points), the student provides a subjective, narrative-style commentary, using phrases like 'it is a advantage for us' and 'which is quite good'. The task requires a report on the features of the maps, not a personal opinion on the convenience of the hospital. Key features such as the construction of roundabouts and the changes to road access points are largely ignored or described in an overly simplistic, non-technical manner. The response lacks the analytical focus required for an Academic Task 1 report.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response is divided into paragraphs, but the internal structure is weak. There is a lack of logical progression; the text reads more like a stream of consciousness than a structured report. Cohesive devices are either missing or used incorrectly, such as the repetitive use of 'and when' to link ideas. Referencing is often unclear, and the flow between sentences is disjointed. The lack of clear signposting makes it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between the two years, as the focus shifts inconsistently between the maps.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.5

The vocabulary is very limited and repetitive. The student relies on basic, informal language such as 'quite good', 'quite necessary', and 'quite easily'. There is no attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary related to maps, transport, or urban planning (e.g., 'intersection', 'roundabout', 'access road', 'relocated'). The word choice is often inappropriate for an academic context, and there are several instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'when we come local' and 'modern days'. The range is insufficient to convey the information with any degree of precision or academic tone.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that impede clarity. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement ('This graph give', 'It give'), article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are run-on or lack proper punctuation, making the text difficult to parse. There is a lack of complex sentence structures; the writing relies heavily on simple, repetitive clauses. While the meaning is generally discernible, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and the lack of control over sentence boundaries significantly detract from the quality of the writing.
