Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers the main features of the maps, including the addition of roundabouts, the relocation of parking, and the shift from bus stops to a bus station. However, the description is somewhat mechanical and lacks a more sophisticated synthesis of the changes. While the key information is present, the overview is brief and could be more detailed in terms of spatial relationships. The comparison between 2007 and 2010 is clear, but the report would benefit from a more precise description of the road layout changes to better highlight the 'main features' as required by the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response is organized into logical paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the map changes. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'However' and 'In 2007', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly repetitive or mechanical. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the flow between sentences could be improved to create a more cohesive narrative. Referencing is generally clear, though the connection between the roundabouts and the city road could be expressed more smoothly to enhance the overall progression of the information.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, using terms like 'roundabout', 'parking area', and 'bus station'. However, there are several spelling errors, such as 'bas stops' and 'bas station', which detract from the quality of the writing. The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive; for instance, the word 'construction' is used multiple times. To reach a higher band, you should aim for more varied synonyms and ensure accurate spelling of key terms related to the map features.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'The given two maps illustrates' (subject-verb agreement) and 'which was not available' (should be 'were' to match 'changes'). Additionally, there are issues with article usage and prepositional phrasing, such as 'in west of the hospital road'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to suggest a lack of control over complex structures. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage will improve your score.
