IELTS Writing Task 1 question
The two maps below show road access to a city hospital in 2007 and 2010.
Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons wherever relevant.
Student answer (Band 8.0)
The two maps illustrate the changes made to the road access and infrastructure surrounding a city hospital between 2007 and 2010.
Overall, the main developments included the addition of two roundabouts, the construction of a dedicated bus station, and the separation of parking facilities for staff and the public.
In 2007, Hospital Road connected City Road directly to the Ring Road via T-junctions, with bus stops lining both sides of the street. Additionally, a single car park located to the east of Hospital Road was shared by both staff and the public.
By 2010, the infrastructure underwent significant modifications. Two roundabouts were built on Hospital Road: one at the intersection with City Road and another near the hospital entrance. The bus stops were removed and replaced by a bus station on the western side of the road, accessible via both roundabouts. Furthermore, the original car park was designated exclusively for staff, while a new public car park was constructed on the eastern side of the Ring Road.
