Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to describe the changes between the two maps, but it fails to provide a clear overview or highlight the most significant trends. The description is often confusing and lacks precision, such as the vague reference to 'some quite changes' or the inaccurate claim that the area underwent 'industrialisation'. While the main features like the car parks and bus stops are mentioned, the lack of a clear summary and the inclusion of inaccurate information prevent the response from fully addressing the task requirements. The report is descriptive rather than analytical, missing the opportunity to compare the two time periods effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response is organised into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is often unclear. The use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes inappropriate, such as the use of 'Conversely' at the start of the second paragraph, which does not logically connect the ideas. Referencing is frequently confusing, making it difficult for the reader to follow the spatial layout of the hospital area. The sentences are often disjointed, and the lack of clear signposting makes the overall structure feel mechanical and difficult to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'strait road' instead of 'straight road', and 'hear we show' instead of 'here we show'. The student struggles to use precise terminology to describe map features, relying on basic phrases like 'we show' or 'as usual'. The spelling errors, such as 'mape' and 'industrialisation' (used incorrectly in context), further limit the clarity of the response. A wider range of vocabulary related to spatial description is needed to improve the score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The grammatical range is very limited, consisting mostly of simple, error-prone sentences. There are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement ('The diagram illustrate'), article usage, and prepositional phrases. Many sentences are poorly constructed, making them difficult to parse, such as 'after hospital we show strait road is this a hospital road'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with run-on sentences and missing commas. While the meaning is generally discernible, the high frequency of basic grammatical errors significantly impacts the readability of the text.
