Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the maps, such as the relocation of the bus station and the changes to parking and road access. However, the description is somewhat imprecise; for example, stating the paths are 'more broader' is grammatically incorrect and vague. While the main trends are identified, the comparison between 2007 and 2010 could be more clearly structured to highlight the transformation. The overview is present but lacks the clarity required for a higher band, as some details, such as the specific road names or the exact nature of the 'entries', are not clearly explained.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. There is an attempt to use cohesive devices like 'To begin with' and 'However', but these are sometimes used awkwardly or do not effectively link the ideas. The progression of information is generally logical, moving from an overview to specific details. However, the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'the two entries joining the first and second roundabouts', which lacks sufficient context to be fully understood by the reader.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'more broader', 'west southern part', and 'spilt into'. The student attempts to use descriptive language, but the phrasing often sounds unnatural or incorrect. To improve, the student should focus on using more precise terminology for describing spatial changes and ensuring that adjectives and adverbs are used correctly in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'the two roundabout paths now more broader', 'Bus station is now locates', and 'there are several changes has been made'. These errors involve subject-verb agreement, comparative structures, and tense usage. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of these errors prevents the response from reaching a higher band. More attention to basic sentence construction and proofreading for grammatical accuracy is needed.
