Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the maps, such as the addition of the car park, the bus station, and the roundabouts. However, the description is somewhat repetitive and lacks a clear overview or summary of the overall trends. The comparison between the two years is present but could be more effectively structured to highlight the transformation of the hospital's infrastructure. While the key changes are identified, the lack of a distinct introduction and a cohesive summary paragraph limits the development of the response. To improve, ensure you group information logically rather than listing changes in a disjointed manner.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response is organized into a single paragraph, which makes it difficult to follow the progression of ideas. There is a lack of effective paragraphing to separate the introduction from the body. Cohesive devices are used, but they are often repetitive (e.g., 'In 2007', 'In 2010') and sometimes mechanical. The flow between sentences is occasionally interrupted by awkward phrasing, such as 'On the other end in 2007', which does not accurately signal a transition. Using a wider variety of linking words and organizing the response into clear paragraphs would significantly improve the coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. Phrases like 'huge difference', 'simple', and 'car parking' are basic and lack the precision required for a higher band. There is also some awkward phrasing, such as 'not organized it was present', which hinders clarity. To achieve a higher score, you should aim to use more precise terminology related to maps and urban planning, such as 'infrastructure', 'accessibility', 'constructed', or 'relocated'. Expanding your range of descriptive adjectives and nouns will help you convey the changes more effectively.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and some attempts at complex sentences, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Subject-verb agreement issues are present, such as 'The maps illustrates' and 'There was also the roundabout'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing commas and periods. While the meaning is generally clear, these errors occur frequently and occasionally impede the flow of reading. Focusing on basic sentence structure, subject-verb agreement, and correct article usage will help improve the accuracy of your writing.
