Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the maps, such as the addition of car parks and the changes to roundabouts. However, the description is somewhat disorganized and lacks a clear, analytical focus. While you identify key changes, the reporting is occasionally confusing, such as the contradictory mention of roundabouts. To improve, ensure you clearly contrast the 2007 and 2010 layouts by grouping features logically (e.g., road access vs. parking facilities) rather than listing them in a fragmented manner. The overview is present but could be more precise in summarizing the overall transformation of the hospital's infrastructure.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the internal flow is disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes mechanical or misused, such as the abrupt transition 'Now it was replaced'. Referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult for the reader to track which year or location is being discussed. To achieve a higher band, focus on using a wider range of linking words (e.g., 'In contrast', 'Furthermore', 'Subsequently') to connect ideas more fluidly and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'many technology in moderate hospital' and 'for the employment', which are not appropriate in this context. You rely on basic descriptors and struggle with accurate collocations related to map descriptions. To improve, learn specific terminology for describing changes in maps, such as 'demolished', 'expanded', 'converted', or 'relocated', and ensure you use nouns and adjectives correctly to describe the hospital facilities.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'The two map illustrated'), tense consistency (switching between past and present), and article usage. Sentence structures are mostly simple, and attempts at more complex sentences are often marred by errors in punctuation and syntax. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring consistent verb tenses when describing past events, and proofreading for common errors like missing articles or incorrect pluralization.
