Student answer (Band 6.0)

The maps provide the roads entering to the hospital in two different years, 2007 and 2010.

Overall, it can be clearly seen that in both the year there was same infrastructure. however, some places were relocated to the another places and introduced two circles in 2010.

In 2007, the hospital was surrounded by ring road and the hospital road connected city road to ring road straight forward from the south to the north direction. Moreover, there was two car parking was allocated to local and staffs, on the right and the left side of the hospital path.

However, the major change in 2010 was , two new circles were constructed at the both ends of the hospital road, and which was connected as it was , to ring road at hospital site and to city road on the opposite side of hospital. In addition, the bus-stand was replaced at the right side car parking near the hospital and was connected to both the circles of ring road and city road, which was located away from the hospital and at the north-east corner in 2007. Additionally, left sided parking was only dedicated to staff only and new parking was build besides the hospital on the east for the residents.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers the main features of the maps, including the addition of roundabouts and the relocation of the bus station and parking areas. However, the overview is slightly inaccurate, as the infrastructure was not the same in both years; significant changes occurred. While the key features are identified, the description of the locations is occasionally confusing, such as the description of the bus station's new position. To reach a higher band, ensure that the overview clearly highlights the nature of the changes rather than stating there was no change, and provide more precise spatial descriptions.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response is organised into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs detailing the changes. Cohesive devices such as 'However', 'In addition', and 'Moreover' are used to link ideas. However, the flow is sometimes hindered by awkward phrasing and mechanical transitions. For example, the sentence 'the major change in 2010 was , two new circles were constructed' contains unnecessary punctuation and slightly disjointed syntax. Referencing is generally clear, but the progression of ideas could be smoother to improve the overall readability.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to describe the changes to the hospital access. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'relocated' and 'infrastructure'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'entering to the hospital' instead of 'providing access to the hospital', and 'two circles' instead of 'roundabouts'. Additionally, there are minor errors in word form, such as 'besides' instead of 'beside'. The range is sufficient to convey the main points but lacks the precision required for a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('there was two car parking') and awkward sentence construction ('which was connected as it was , to ring road'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary commas appearing in several places. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to suggest that the student has not yet mastered complex sentence forms. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct prepositional usage would significantly improve the accuracy.
