The two maps below show road access to a city hospital in 2007 and 2010.

Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons wherever relevant.

Student answer (Band 7.5)

The two maps illustrate the changes in road access to a city hospital between 2007 and 2010.

Overall, the road system became more efficient and convenient by 2010. Major improvements include the construction of two roundabouts, a bus station, and separate car parks for staff and the public.

In 2007, the hospital was surrounded by a ring road and connected to city road by hospital road. There were six bus stops located along both sides of hospital road. In addition there was only one car park to the east of hospital road, which was shared by both hospital staff and visitors.

By 2010, the road layout had been significantly upgraded. The bus stops were removed and replaced by a bus station on the western side of hospital road, connected to the hospital by access roads. Two roundabouts were built, one at the junction with city road and another at the hospital entrance, improving traffic flow. Furthermore, the original shared car park was divided into two separate facilities. A staff car park was built near hospital road, while a larger was built near hospital road, while a large public cark park was added to the east.
