Student answer (Band 5.0)

Both maps show road that access to city hospital in 2007 and 2010.Both have different map.

Overall in old map there is somehow less development than new map like the shortage of modern parking stand and bus station etc.

The first map shows that while following city road there is hospital road that is on north side of city road. After following the north side of city road there is city hospital along which there is ring road. All parking is at south east side of hospital road, parking is borh for staff and public genrally.

The second map shows that there is new modern parking stand for only pulic that is located at east side of city hospital, while for staff members parking area is at south east side of hospital. There is new devloped big bus stand in new map of hospital that is located along the city road at north side. There are modern roads that go to hospital having ring roads that are in round shape.

Both maps show the hospital development overall.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the task by describing the changes between the two maps. However, the overview is weak and lacks a clear summary of the most significant trends, such as the expansion of road infrastructure and the separation of parking facilities. While the response identifies some key features like the new bus station and parking areas, the description is somewhat repetitive and lacks precision in spatial referencing (e.g., 'following city road'). To improve, you should focus on grouping information logically—such as comparing road access and parking facilities separately—and ensure the overview highlights the main transformation rather than just listing minor details.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is limited and often mechanical, such as the repetitive use of 'The first map shows' and 'The second map shows'. Some sentences are poorly connected, making the flow of information feel fragmented. To reach a higher band, you should use a wider variety of linking words and transition phrases (e.g., 'In contrast', 'Furthermore', 'Additionally') to connect your ideas more fluidly. Additionally, ensure that each paragraph has a clear focus, such as one paragraph for the 2007 layout and another for the 2010 changes.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, relying heavily on simple descriptors like 'new', 'big', and 'modern'. There are also issues with word choice and spelling, such as 'borh' (both), 'genrally' (generally), and 'devloped' (developed). The range of vocabulary is insufficient to convey the information with precision. To improve, try to incorporate more specific terminology related to maps and urban planning, such as 'infrastructure', 'relocated', 'expanded', 'designated', and 'accessibility'. Working on your spelling and using more varied adjectives will significantly enhance the quality of your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with article usage ('the road that access to city hospital'), subject-verb agreement, and sentence structure. Many sentences are simple, and attempts at more complex structures often result in errors, such as 'All parking is at south east side of hospital road, parking is borh for staff and public genrally.' Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring correct use of articles, and proofreading for punctuation and spelling errors.
