Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response identifies the main features of the maps, such as the relocation of parking and the addition of bus facilities. However, the description is somewhat fragmented and lacks a clear, professional overview of the spatial changes. While the key differences between 2007 and 2010 are mentioned, the explanation of the road layout is confusing. For instance, the reference to 'city road' and 'hospital road' is not clearly linked to the visual evidence provided in the maps. To improve, ensure that the summary highlights the most significant changes—such as the introduction of the roundabout and the separation of public and staff access—more clearly and logically.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the logical progression within paragraphs is weak. Many sentences are disjointed, and the use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes inaccurate, such as the abrupt transition 'also through ring road of hospital relocated east side public car parking.' The referencing is often unclear, making it difficult to track which specific area of the map is being discussed. Improving the use of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'in contrast') and ensuring clear subject-verb agreement would significantly enhance the flow of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is somewhat repetitive and basic. Phrases like 'People were reached to hospital' and 'relocation of facilities' are used, but there is a lack of precise terminology to describe map features (e.g., 'roundabout', 'junction', 'access point', 'designated'). There are also errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'individually car' instead of 'private vehicles'. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more specific vocabulary related to urban planning and spatial description, and ensure that words are used in their correct grammatical form.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('Both maps elaborates', 'The main changes was'), incorrect preposition usage ('reached to hospital'), and sentence fragments. The range of structures is limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences with some awkward phrasing. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, particularly subject-verb agreement and the correct use of passive voice, which is essential for describing changes in maps. Reducing the number of errors in basic structures is necessary before attempting more complex sentence forms.
