Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which negatively impacts the score. While you identify some key features, such as the changes to road access and the addition of the bus station, the description is incomplete and ends abruptly mid-sentence. The overview is present but lacks sufficient detail to fully summarize the main trends. To improve, ensure you cover all significant changes shown in the maps and provide a more comprehensive comparison between the two years. The lack of a conclusion and the unfinished nature of the final sentence prevent a higher score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response uses some basic cohesive devices like 'Overall', 'To initiate with', and 'Moving ahead' to organize the information. However, the paragraphing is underdeveloped, and the flow of ideas is interrupted by the unfinished final sentence. The logical progression is hindered by the lack of a clear structure and the abrupt ending. To improve, focus on using a wider range of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear focus, such as grouping changes by location or type of facility, rather than listing them in a fragmented manner.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying on basic terms like 'change', 'exist', and 'area'. There are several instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'road change into modernize' and 'bus stop change in roundabout'. These errors occasionally make the meaning unclear. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise vocabulary related to maps and urban planning, such as 'converted', 'constructed', 'replaced', or 'upgraded'. Expanding your range of descriptive adjectives and nouns will help you convey information more accurately and professionally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors, including missing articles ('in 2007 bottom side'), incorrect verb tenses ('road change into modernize'), and incomplete sentence structures. The reliance on simple sentence structures limits the range, and the errors in basic grammar and punctuation are noticeable throughout. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions when describing locations. Practicing the construction of complex sentences will also help you demonstrate a wider range of grammatical control, which is essential for higher band scores.
