Student answer (Band 5.5)

The map depicts the considerable transformation of a road to the city hospital over the period from 2007 to 2010.

Overall, during the tenure, the road access has been gradually modernized and many new infrastructure were added such as public car park, bus station and roundabouts.

The major observation is in the public car park area. The one to the north east section was being newly constructed whereas the north west division has not seen any modifications during the period.

In contrast,The roundabouts were been installed, one in the centre of ring road and hospital road and another on the south end side of the road where city road and hospital road meet. The bus stop on the both sides of hospital road has been completly demolished and new bus station is build on the south west side and cark park has been upgraded to the staff car park on the hospital road.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the maps, including the addition of roundabouts, the new bus station, and the changes to car parking. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. For instance, while you mention the new car park, you do not clearly contrast the specific locations or the overall layout changes effectively. The overview is present but could be more analytical by highlighting the shift from a simple road network to a more complex, regulated system. To improve, ensure you provide a more detailed comparison of the spatial changes rather than just listing the additions.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The response is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally inaccurate. For example, the transition 'In contrast, The roundabouts...' is slightly awkward due to punctuation errors and the choice of connector. The referencing is sometimes unclear, such as 'The one to the north east section', which lacks a clear antecedent. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would elevate the coherence of the report.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'modernized', 'infrastructure', and 'demolished'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'during the tenure' (which is inappropriate for a map description) and 'cark park' (a spelling error). Additionally, 'north west division' is not the most natural way to describe map sections. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise geographical descriptors and ensuring accurate spelling and word usage.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'many new infrastructure were added' (subject-verb agreement), 'The roundabouts were been installed' (incorrect passive voice construction), and 'new bus station is build' (incorrect tense). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after periods. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors limits the score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage will significantly improve your accuracy.
