Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the task achievement score. While you have identified the main features of the maps—such as the new car park, the bus station, and the roundabouts—the description lacks the necessary detail and depth required for a high score. The overview is present but could be more comprehensive. To improve, ensure you provide a more detailed comparison of the changes and expand on the spatial relationships between the features. Because the response is under-length, it cannot be awarded a score higher than 5.0 for this criterion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of information. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'In north eastern direction' and 'whereas' to link ideas. However, the transitions between sentences are sometimes mechanical, and the overall flow could be improved with more varied cohesive markers. The referencing is generally clear, but the structure remains somewhat simplistic. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider range of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus that connects smoothly to the next.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety expected at higher levels. You use basic terms like 'added' and 'built' repeatedly. While the meaning is clear, the range is limited. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to urban planning and spatial description, such as 'constructed,' 'implemented,' 'designated,' or 'transformed.' Additionally, ensure you use accurate collocations; for example, instead of 'right and left to hospital road,' use 'on either side of the hospital road.'
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are several grammatical errors that detract from the quality. For instance, 'The two maps shows' contains a subject-verb agreement error, and 'additon' is misspelled. There are also issues with article usage, such as 'additon of public car park' (should be 'an addition of a public car park'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to limit your score. Focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and article placement.
