Student answer (Band 5.5)
The diagrams illustrates the road access of a City hospital in 2007 and 2010.
Overall, the major change is related to the public car parking. Both staff and public parking was at same place in 2007 while it is separated in 2010. Couple of round abouts are constructed in 2010 which are missing in 2007.
In 2007, staff and public were sharing the car parking, whereas in 2010, public car parking is constructed at different location from staff park. Two major round abouts are constructed on Hospital road. The identical bus stops are converted into large Bus station in 2010.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the maps well, identifying the key changes such as the separation of parking facilities, the addition of roundabouts, and the transition from bus stops to a bus station. The overview is clear and highlights the most significant developments. However, the report is slightly repetitive, as the information regarding the roundabouts and parking is restated in the final paragraph. To improve, ensure that each piece of information is presented once with clear comparisons, rather than repeating details. The inclusion of specific locations (e.g., east of the ring road) demonstrates a good grasp of the visual data provided.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is logically organized into an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the general trends from specific details. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the repetition of information in the final paragraph disrupts the progression of ideas. While cohesive devices like 'whereas' and 'although' are used, the transition between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother. The referencing is generally clear, but the structure would benefit from a more concise synthesis of the data to avoid the redundancy noted in the final paragraph.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing for the description of spatial changes and infrastructure. You successfully use terms like 'roundabouts', 'intersection', and 'converted'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'the ring road is covering the hospital stays same' and 'staff and public car park are build'. These errors do not impede communication, but they limit the score. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise verbs and ensuring that nouns and verbs agree in number and tense consistently throughout the report.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, particularly with verb tenses and subject-verb agreement, such as 'The diagrams illustrates' (should be 'illustrate'), 'are build' (should be 'were built'), and 'Before both parkings were situated' (should be 'Previously'). While these errors are frequent, they rarely impede the reader's understanding of the information. To improve, pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement and ensure that passive voice constructions are formed correctly, especially when describing past events in the 2007 map.
