Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons wherever relevant.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The two maps illustrate alteration in the road access infrastructure to a city hospital between 2007 and 2010.
Overall, the maps depict significant changes in transportation facilities around the hospital during the upcoming years, including the introduction of a bus station, relocation of staff car park, and the addition of a roundabout on city road.
In 2007, there was a city hospital at the centre surrounded by ring road. Moreover, at south side there was a hospital road and at side of it there was a car parking area of staff and public, meanwhile, there was a city road at south-east corner. Furthermore, there was also a bus stop at east side of city hospital
In 2010, there are significant changes related to parking areas. However, parking area was divided into two parts, public car parking and staff car parking. At east side of city hospital public car parking was constructed and staff car parking was relocated. Moreover, bus station was also constructed at west side of hospital road, meanwhile ring road , city hospital, hospital road and city road remain as it is. Furthermore, roundabout is also constructed at city hospital road and at hospital road also.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the maps well, identifying key changes such as the new bus station, the relocation of parking, and the addition of roundabouts. The overview is clear and highlights the most significant developments. However, there are some inaccuracies in the description of the locations; for instance, the text mentions a 'bus station' at the west side, whereas the map shows a 'bus station' and a 'bus stop' in different locations. Additionally, the description of the roundabouts is slightly confusing, as the text states they were constructed at the 'city hospital road' and 'hospital road', which is not entirely clear. Despite these minor issues, the main trends are successfully reported.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is logically organized into an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. The use of cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Furthermore', and 'In 2010' helps to guide the reader through the information. However, the flow is occasionally hindered by repetitive sentence structures and some mechanical transitions. For example, the phrase 'meanwhile, there was a city road' is used twice in a similar way, which feels slightly repetitive. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two time periods, which aids readability. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear, but the use of cohesive devices could be more varied to improve the natural flow of the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, with terms like 'infrastructure', 'relocation', and 'transportation facilities' used correctly. However, there is a reliance on basic descriptive language, and some word choices are slightly imprecise or repetitive, such as the repeated use of 'constructed' and 'area'. There are also minor errors in collocation, such as 'at side of it' instead of 'beside it' or 'on the side of it'. To reach a higher band, the student should aim to use a wider range of precise vocabulary to describe spatial relationships and changes, such as 'converted into', 'extended', or 'situated'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('at south side', 'at east side') and verb tenses ('there are significant changes' when referring to the 2010 map, which should be past tense). The sentence 'meanwhile ring road, city hospital, hospital road and city road remain as it is' contains a subject-verb agreement error ('remain' should be 'remained' and 'as it is' should be 'as they were'). These errors are frequent but do not significantly impede communication. More attention to articles and consistent tense usage is required.
