IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The two maps below show road access to a city hospital in 2007 and 2010.

Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons wherever relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.5)

The diagram illustrates the road access to a city hospital that underwent some infrastructural changes from 2007 to 2010.

Overall, two roundabouts are constructed in the south of the hospital. Some changes are seen on the parking sites. The bus station is built on the same location but with broader access.

The major change is done by the construction of roundabouts on the main road. In 2007, it was a straight road but two major roundabouts are constructed in 2010, one is on the intersection of city road and hospital road in the south of the hospital helping both sides of traffic. The other roundabout is right in front of the hospital. While both roundabouts are giving direct access to the bus station. In 2007, the car park for staff and public was on the same location which is later separated in 2010, with separate parking for public built to the east of hospital, provided direct access from ring road.

The staff parking remains at the same place to the south-east of the hospital. The six identical bus stops are merged to form a spacious bus station having better access from both the roundabouts. The ring road surrounding the hospital remains the same as 2007.
