Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the maps, such as the addition of roundabouts, the new bus station, and the changes to car parking. However, the description is somewhat imprecise. For instance, stating the public car park was 'separated' in the southeast is vague, and the report lacks a clear comparison of the overall layout changes. While the main features are identified, the analysis could be more detailed regarding the specific locations and the flow of traffic. The overview is present but could be more effectively integrated to highlight the most significant trends, such as the shift from dispersed bus stops to a centralized station.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression from 2007 to 2010. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'On the other hand', and 'In addition' are used to link ideas. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly repetitive. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the phrase 'the another was on the south of the place', which lacks a clear antecedent. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, overview, and the two time periods, providing a coherent structure overall.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the student to describe the changes in the hospital area. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'transformation' and 'centralized', but the range is limited. Some word choices are imprecise or awkward, such as 'the map undergone' instead of 'the map underwent' and 'city hospital place' instead of 'hospital site'. There are also minor errors in collocation, such as 'in the left side of the map' rather than 'on the left side'. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey the main points but lacks precision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'The two maps illustrates' (subject-verb agreement), 'there were two roundabout are added' (incorrect passive construction), and 'the ring road is remained' (incorrect verb tense/voice). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before commas. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of basic grammatical errors prevents the response from reaching a higher band. More attention to verb forms and subject-verb agreement is needed.
