Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main features of the maps, such as the changes to parking and the addition of roundabouts. However, there is a significant factual error regarding the timeline: the prompt specifies 2007 and 2010, but the student refers to '2019' in the final paragraph. Additionally, the description of the changes is somewhat superficial. While the main features are identified, the comparison between the two years could be more precise, particularly regarding the specific locations of the new infrastructure. The overview is present but lacks a clear summary of the most significant changes, such as the overall improvement in traffic management.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'In 2007' and 'In 2019', which help guide the reader. However, the flow is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions between sentences are abrupt. The referencing is generally clear, but the logical progression is hindered by the factual error regarding the date, which creates confusion for the reader. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different time periods.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There is some repetition of basic terms like 'built', 'hospital', and 'road'. Some collocations are slightly unnatural, such as 'physical structure was built in hospital premise'. While the meaning is generally conveyed, the range of vocabulary is limited, and there is little attempt to use more sophisticated or descriptive language to characterize the changes in the hospital's infrastructure.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Subject-verb agreement is a recurring issue, such as 'The two maps illustrates' (should be 'illustrate') and 'Many new physical structure was built' (should be 'structures were built'). There are also errors with articles, such as 'There was ring road' (should be 'a ring road'). While the meaning is usually clear, these persistent errors in basic grammar and pluralization prevent the response from reaching a higher band. The sentence structures are mostly simple, with limited use of complex forms.
