Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the maps, including the addition of roundabouts and the reconfiguration of car parks and bus stops. However, the overview is slightly weak; while it mentions 'significant improvement,' it lacks a clear summary of the most striking spatial changes. The description of the 2007 map is clear, but the 2010 section could be more precise regarding the specific locations of the new facilities. The response addresses the prompt adequately but would benefit from a more analytical approach to the comparisons between the two years rather than just listing changes.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, moving from an introduction/overview to specific details. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'In year 2007' and 'The public car park is at right side,' though some transitions feel a bit mechanical. The referencing is generally clear, but there are instances where the flow is slightly hampered by awkward phrasing, such as the transition between the description of the bus stop and the car park. Overall, the information is presented in a coherent manner that is easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, using terms like 'roundabouts,' 'relocation,' and 'accessibility.' However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'significant improvement occur' (should be 'occurred') and 'at right side' (should be 'on the right side'). The range is sufficient to convey the necessary information, but it lacks the sophistication or precision required for a higher band. The repetition of 'city hospital' and 'hospital road' could be mitigated by using synonyms or referring to the locations more concisely.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'The main changes was' (subject-verb agreement), 'bus stop also expansion of it' (fragmented structure), and 'a change like two roundabout is added' (pluralization error). While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede the reader's understanding of the information. To improve, the student should focus on subject-verb agreement and ensuring that all clauses are complete and correctly linked.
